Energizing or sleepy?
Mostly calming. Leafly places Ice Cream Cake on the calming side of its scale with sleepy as the top effect, and Leafly’s editors put it on “the more sedated side of the Cake spectrum”.1,10 Several sources still describe a lift first: Weedmaps calls the opening euphoric, AllBud lists uplifting, Barney’s Farm cerebral and happy, and GreenState’s reviewer let her mind “creatively wander” for the first 15 to 20 minutes.2,5,6,11 The parents differ too: Leafly rates Gelato #33 more energizing than calming and Wedding Cake mostly calming (see genetics).12,13
Why two batches can feel different
Potency alone varies widely: one in ten lab-tested batches came in under 17.69% THC and one in ten above 26.80%.14 Two different crosses share the name, and Leafly warned in 2021 that the strain’s popularity had led to rampant growing that “eventually erodes quality control”, so two jars labelled Ice Cream Cake can be noticeably different flower.2,15,16
