Leafly calls it indica-dominant and rates its effects mostly calming, Weedmaps lists it as an indica, AllBud and Zamnesia give 75% indica and Barney’s Farm’s seed version 70%. Its parents lean less: Leafly rates Wedding Cake mostly calming and Gelato #33 more energizing than calming.1,4,7,8,11,12,13

Mid-to-high. The median total THC across 2,489 state lab tests was 22.17%, and 22.6% of tests reached 25% or more. In every year with at least 100 tests (2020–2023) the yearly median stayed between 21.88% and 22.54%.6 Leafly lists 22%, AllBud 20–25% and Weedmaps 20–28%.1,4,11
Vanilla and sweet cream, by most accounts. Leafly lists vanilla, butter and pepper and describes sweet hints of vanilla and sugary dough; on Weedmaps 40% of flavor reports say sweet, 38% vanilla and 21% berry; AllBud lists cheesy, creamy, nutty and sweet. Seed Junky Genetics, the Los Angeles breeder led by JBeezy that also bred Wedding Cake. Leafly’s strain page names no breeder, but Leafly News, High Times and SeedFinder credit Seed Junky, which never sold the strain as feminized seeds and, per SeedFinder, currently sells neither seeds nor clones of it.1,2,3,9,10,14
Not as Leafly files them: Gelato Cake has its own strain page, even though Leafly gives it the same two parents, Gelato #33 and Wedding Cake, and the same top three effects, sleepy, relaxed and hungry. Gelato Cake lists berry where Ice Cream Cake lists pepper among its top flavors.1,15

Leafly put Ice Cream Cake first on its list of the best-selling strains of 2022, calling it “an easy number one with Leafly buyers and connoisseurs”, and had it on the list again for 2023; in 2021 it was the third most searched strain on Leafly in the US.16,17,18 In Leafly’s 2025 dispensary orders it was the top strain in Oregon.19 Headset rankings published by Leaf Nation in March 2024 had it first in Missouri, third in Colorado, fourth in Maryland and Oregon, sixth in Washington and seventh in Michigan.20
It has won where growers compete, too: Ice Cream Cake entries took first place for licensed mixed-light flower at the 2019 Emerald Cup and first in mixed-light flower at the 2021 edition.21,22 High Times called it one of the latest dessert strains to gain hype status in 2019 and, in 2023, named it with OG Kush and Blue Dream among strains that had “must-grow years”; GreenState found almost 900 products under the name nationwide in early 2024.10,23,24
